Ok newbie to the forum - first post

Thinking of taking the train into Innsbruck From Katowice, Poland

We are looking for some nice mountains\ lakes - Tirol near Innsbruck looks nice - but I'm open to suggestions. Only have 2 Days on location - may be able to pull some more

Anyone been there?

I loved Innsbruck. It's really beautiful! Salzburg isn't too far away and there's a lot to see and do. It's also remarkably gorgeous! I'd definitely recommend Vienna, but if you're limited to two days, it might be hard.

Tirol is a gorgeous part of Austria. i used to go skiing in a place called Alpbach every year when i was a kid, really nice little town. Not sure about getting there by train though.

What time of year are you going? Ive only been there once in the summer, but it was just as nice as in the winter, the views are great.

That whole part of Austria is great though, just find some random town/mountain and take a look around!

Austria is the one country in Europe I want to see but have not. From what I hear, I would reccomend Salzburg for its scenery and historical sites (Mozart was born there).

We took the train along a southern (scenic) route from Vienna to Salzburg, and just picked a random town to stop in along the way (looked at some pics and found a guest house before we went, because we went in summer and it was busy). We decided on Grobming, for no other reason than that it was more or less in the middle and absolutely stunning in the pictures. And more so in real life. The family at the pension were so nice, and didn't even fuss about calling an ambulance and letting us wash our bloody clothes. They even invited us to stay longer, despite our first, rather stressful hour...

We ended up staying two extra days there and dropping that time from Salzburg. I would definitely recommend getting out into the countryside in Austria, though you are pressed for time. Gorgeous country.

Innsbruck is definatly a nice place to go if you looking for a mountainous area. Salzburg is more worthwhile though in my opinion, more to see and do. And if youre looking to get out of all the mainstream cities Gmunden is a good one. I lived there for a year as an exchange student and the scienery is hard to beat.

if you happen to make it to hopfargen (sp) theres a cool little place where u go and catch a fish in a lake ( they supply rods ) then they cook it for you...fun place for a relaxing day and a few beers.... not many tourists, think we were the only ones there when i went. cheap too, something like 5-8 euro?

Being from Salzburg myself, I'll have to say you should pay us a visit, of course ;D
But really, it's so worth a visit. Not only the town of Salzburg, which is beautiful and I just love, but also the Salzkammergut is amazing. You know, Strobl, St. Wolfgang, Fuschl...all these places are so lovely to got to, with all the lakes.

But Tirol (with Innsbruck) is really nice too, as is Styria. I'm especially fond of Southstyria, with all those vineyards etc...simply beautiful

I love Vienna too, of course...it's our capital! Fantastic place full of history and culture, but I just think that it would be a bit too much in two days, you know.

My favorite part of Innsbruck is the Olympic torch and the Ski Jumping Stadium. When I visisted in '98 (damn, am i that old already?) we hiked to the top of the stadium to the foot of the Ski Jump. Then we found some ratty old ladder and used it to climb up onto the jump, then climed all the stairs to the top. Probably one of the most unbelievable views I've ever seen...

and while i dont advocate trespassing or dangerous acts, it was a good time
