I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway.. How old is too old when it comes to staying in hostels? I REALLY dont want to be that "old chick" that no one wants to room with , and while I am certainly not wandering around Europe for the parties, it WOULD be nice to hang out with some fellow travellers sometimes... Anyway, let me know your opinion!

I ran into a few older people at the hostels, the more "trendy" hostels are full of younguns but hostels get used as temporary accomidation by Europeans say if their moving or looking for an apartment. The people staying in hostels are mostly around the 18 - 25 age range but there are older people using the hostels as well.

Well, too old was probably the old man in my London hostel who carried on a twenty minute conversation with me about how he doesn't need Viagara, while my friend laughed hysterically. He was probably in his late 50s, early 60s. Had he been not so creepy, he would've been a young-at-heart fun guy, I assume! What I'm trying to say is as long as you're relaxed, and fun or whatever, I'm sure everybody will be thrilled to be with the "old chick."

I'm 38. we stay at hostels often. Lots of older locals (ie. 50, 60, 70) travel in Europe, usually locals, and tend to stay at hostels, so most don't have a strict age limit. And heck, if you're 90 and still up for sleeping in subpar beds and sharing a bathroom as you trek around Europe, you're cooler than I'll ever be...

In Ireland, we were in a dorm with a couple that had children our age (early 20's). You hear lots of stories about older (loosely speaking) people staying.
