Technically the p2p networks you could use such as Limewire or WinMX are legal. Its the songs you probably are wanting to downloading that are illegal.

Your options are pretty much A. pay the man for your music or B. be a man and steal for your music :D

There's also iTunes if you're looking for mostly music. Works for both Windows and Mac.

^^ Yes, and you also get piece of mind. I think the great thing about iTunes is you still feel guilt free about music, yet aren't forced to shell out $20 for an entire cd when you probably only want a song or two.

I still do it the ummm... not so legal way. I have no conscience.

I really like Itunes. You get lots of music, including special editions, live performances, etc. There are also TV shows, audiobooks and also podcasts. There are some great free podcasts, both audio and video. There is one video podcast that stars the british comedian who was the main character in the original British version of the office. Good stuff!! check it out, browse around. There is a lot to check out. Other features I like are the playlists published by users. They can really lead you to new artists that you have never heard of.

You could also subscribe to a usenet service, like Usenext, or some such. Still not legal, or free for that matter, but you can get a ton of content and very fast download speeds.

In two days and 23 hours of work, I'd had exactly 2.5 hours of sleep (because of back-to-back shifts) when I wrote that.

Hey man,
I know that this may not be the best system for downloading, but check out myspace. There are millions of songs for download on myspace from both major artists and little garage bands trying to make it out there. Yes, it is true you usually can't get full albums from the top artists for free, but sometimes you can get a few of the top songs for free. Sometimes you can even get songs that are not on the artist's cds. Just go to myspace and click on music on the top bar. Browse around and you could grab some awesome music that no one has ever heard of! Hope that helps.

Stealing is simply not my style, I perfer buying the albums but I do proper research on the artist first, Some LP's are pretty cheap and alot of promo stuff can be sent to your house for the price of FREE, so instead of looking how to download stuff buy the album have the artwork and besides you can always copy it to your music library.

Be honest about it, I know how it feels when people steal your music.
