Yes, yes, yes ! This month edition of Chatelaine Magazine (very famous in Canada) contains an article about women taking career pauses to achieve dreams. It's about four women, including myself ! And for those who haven't read my previous posts about this, the journalist found me on here, on travelpunk.com, as she was researching women for her article.

Here's the link for those interested : Chatelaine Magazine. They saved my story for last, under the title "grassroots revelations" (I dont' even know what it means), but the whole article is inspiring, however very short. For example, my career pause story is reduced to a couple of facts that happend in Nepal. Makes it look really easy, but maybe it's better this way, so that people don't hesitate to do the same.

There is a picture of me in the paper magazine, but not on the net ! Jake, I'm sorry ! Can you find a copy of the magazine in your city ?

Nice article, Esther. As far as what "Grassroots Revelations" means, here's my best guess:

Grassroots means something done by people organizing themselves. Kind of a "bottom up" process, rather than an official "top down" government program.

Revelations, of course, means things that have been revealed...insights, inspirations, you know.

I'll see if I can find a copy on our newstands...

GRO's are grassroots organisations but im sure you knew that already Esther. I assume that they are talking about grassroots revelations because of the part where it mentions that the school wanted more funding for a building rather than your expertise at teaching so in expressing a revalation this would as i asume be ofering information about gro's accountability (im just guessing this by the way as this is what my dissertation has been about)

Thank you guys ! I'll be reading month edition to see if readers have posted comments on the article. I do hope it will wake up a couple of people from their lazy lives.

Mike and Bri, thanks for your definitions. I had no idea whatsoever what it meant, but as it appears, "grassroot revelation" is an expression that leaves place for individual interpretation. Hmmm GRO stands for ? Governmental r... organisation ?

LOL i dont know if your joking Esther but GRO are what Non Governmental Organisations sometimes use to get the local people involved in the organisation of projects around their communities e.g in Roma Communities they set up GRO's under the umbrella of an NGO such as Pakiv (which means trust in the Romani language), Soros (boooooo!!!) or the ESRCas Mike said its definately about the bottom up end of the scale. If anyone is interested in some good books on the subject they could try Hulme and Edwards beyond the magic bullet: the accountability of NGO's

that's awesome. the only time i ever heard grassroots mentioned before was in my sociology:war & peace class. they usually referred to it as the goal of supporting civil society movements in their struggle for the protection of nature and the recognition of human rights....? but i suppose the fact that that journalist is writing about locals in a magazine that reaches a large population, it's definitely comparable to grassroots movements. maybe.

congrats all the same
