Are most Hostels Open for drop in's or are reservations recomended. Thanks Aaron

If you're going in the high season (Christmas/New Years and May-September) then yes I would rec making reservations. This is especially true if you are going to a major city.
If its the low season, or if its off the beaten track, I probably wouldnt bother.

^^ Agree. But, if you happen to end up in a town during peak season, it doesn't hurt to try. We didn't book a few hostels ahead of time (Barcelona, Krakow, a few off the beaten path places) and didn't have a problem getting a place to stay. But, it still made us a wee nervous. We did accidentally end up in Frankfurt, Germany during the World Cup (I believe) and ended up paying 140 Euro for a tiny hotel room since it was the only thing that was available!! Ouch.
